Andriy Viktorovych Voronin (born 21 July 1979) is a Ukrainian footballer who played for Liverpool from 2007 to 2009 before joining Dynamo Moscow.

Liverpool careerEdit

Voronin signed for Liverpool on 6 July 2007 for a free transfer from Cologne. Voronin made his Liverpool debut in a friendly against Crewe on 14 July 2007 in a 3-0 victory. He scored his first goal on 17 July 2007 against Werder Bremen in a friendly, to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead. Voronin made his league debut on 11 August 2007, coming on as a substitute in the 78th minute against Aston Villa. A few days later on 15 August 2007 he scored his first competitive goal for Liverpool when he struck a fabulous drive from 25 yards to give Liverpool the lead in the Champions League qualifier against Toulouse.

Rafael Benitez heaped praise on Voronin saying "He is clever, has great game awareness and gives us so many more options in attack. He can play behind a main striker, lead the line himself, or come into the attack from the flanks."

On 25 August 2007, Voronin scored his first goal in the league against Sunderland in the 87th minute. He marked the next league game with another goal, against Derby County in a 6-0 win. In the 8-0 win against Besiktas on 6 November 2007 - which is a record in in the Champions League - Voronin impressed throughout the match and assisted a Steven Gerrard goal with a backheeled pass.

Despite impressing early on in his Liverpool career, Voronin struggled to maintain this, and managed just three goals in 13 league games, bringing his future at the club into question. Voronin sustained an ankle injury on 25 January 2008 during training. The injury required surgery and kept him out of action for six weeks.

After falling behind in the pecking order at Liverpool, Voronin was loaned out to Hertha Berlin for the 2008-09 season. He left Liverpool on 10 January 2010, joining Dynamo Moscow for a fee of £1,800,000.
