Antonio Núñez Tena (born 15 January 1979) is a Spanish midfielder who played for Liverpool between 2004 and 2005, when he signed for Celta Vigo.
Liverpool career[]
Nunez joining Liverpool on 17 August 2004 from Real Madrid in a swap deal which took Michael Owen the other way. He showed his elation towards the move saying "playing for Liverpool is a dream come true for any player." A knee injury picked up in his first day of training delayed Nunez's debut until 28 November 2004 when he made a substitute appearance against Arsenal. His first start came in the following match, in the League Cup fifth round against Tottenham on 1 December 2004. Due to fierce competition however, Nunez was resigned to a spot on the bench for the majority of the time.
His first - and only - goal came in the 2005 League Cup Final from a header which brought the tie back to 2-3. This feat made Nunez the only Liverpool player to score his only goal in a cup final. After a relatively disappointing first season with Liverpool, Nunez returned to Spain, signing for Celta Vigo on 26 July 2005 for an undisclosed fee. He left having made 27 appearances, with a solitary goal to his name.
