Albert Riera Ortega (born 15 April 1982) is a Spanish footballer who played for Liverpool from 2008-2010. He left Liverpool after two seasons at the club, joining Greek side Olympiacos.

Liverpool career[]

Riera was handed the number 11 shirt after signing for Liverpool on 1 September 2008 for £8,000,000. His debut came against Man Utd on 13 September 2008 in a 2-1 triumph. He netted his first goal for Liverpool on 18 October against Wigan. Riera finished the 2008-09 season playing 40 games in all competitions.

He was used less regularly in the following season however, after making commments about Rafael Benitez's player management skills, stating "He's never sorted out a situation with a player by talking with him". Benitez responded by temporarily suspending Riera, and transfer listing him. He was linked with moves to CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow after this and eventually moved away in the summer on 23 July 2010, departing for Greek club Olympiacos for a fee reported to be around £5,000,000.
