Joe Maguire (born 18 January 1996) is an English footballer who played as a defender for Liverpool, but mainly for the U23s, having been in the academy since 2005.

Liverpool career[]

Young left-back Maguire joined the Liverpool Academy in 2005 at the age of nine. He has progressed through the ranks at Kirkby and appeared for the Under 18s for the first time in 2011-12 pre season. He went on to make his competitive Under 18s debut on 24 March 2012 in a 4-3 defeat to West Brom, playing the full 90 minutes of the match. He has been promoted to the Under 18s full-time for the 2012-13 season. In 2012-13 pre season, Maguire was also given the opportunity to make his first appearances for the Reserves, notably producing an impressive performance away to the Chester City first team on 25 July 2012, in the absence of regular Reserves' left backs Jack Robinson and Brad Smith. The season was something of a breakthrough for Maguire. He was one of the U18's stand-out performers and made 23 appearances for the side. In the latter part of the season, he was also frequently found in the U21s matchday squad and was even given the opportunity to train at Melwood with the senior players. In the 2013-14 U18s season, Maguire racked up 18 appearances for the U18s, and also nine appearances for the U21s during their season.

After impressing in the previous season, Maguire made his first involvement in the first team, playing 45 minutes at left back in Liverpool's 4-0 friendly win over the Thailand Premier League XI. The defender wore the number 57 shirt for the club.

On 28 August 2015, Maguire was sent out on a one month loan to Leyton Orient.

On 8 January 2016, Maguire made his first Liverpool appearance, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-2 FA Cup draw at Exeter. However there were no further first team opportunities for Maguire, and on 13 January 2017, it was confirmed that he had signed for Leyton Orient permanently.
