Liverpool career[]

Born in Irchester, Northamptonshire, Neal joined for the club on 9 October 1974 after being signed by Liverpool manager Bob Paisley on a fee of £66,000 from Northampton Town. He made his debut for The Reds in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park on 16 November 1974. The match ended 0–0.

During Neal's career, Liverpool were very successful, and in his eleven seasons for The Reds, won over twenty honours with them. He also was the only player to feature in all four of Liverpool's European Cup victories during the 1970s and 1980s. This makes him one of the most decorated English footballers of all time. After departing from Anfield in 1985, Neal joined Bolton Wanderers as player-manager.

In 2016, he was named 6th greatest footballer in the history of the European Cup by French magazine, L’Équipe.[1]
