In November 1927, Liverpool manager Matt McQueen signed Scottish defender Tom Morrison from St. Mirren in a £4,000 deal- thought to have been not only a club record signing- an accolade he held for nearly two years- but also a British record signing. He made his debut in a 1-0 defeat away to Portsmouth on 11 February 1928. His first goal for the club came away to Arsenal on 13 December 1930 in a 1-1 draw. The goal came in the first minute of the match. He spent eight years at the club, making 254 appearances before moving on to Sunderland.
