Joshua Andrew Sumner (born 3 January 1994) is an English footballer who played as a midfielder for the Liverpool Academy until 2012.
Sumner is a product of the Liverpool youth academy. He plays as a central midfielder and is well regarded for his creativity and defence splitting passes. These qualities have seen him play further forward as a second striker on occasion. Sumner made his first appearance for Liverpool's youth sides as an unused substitute in 2009. In the 2010-11 Academy season, Sumner appeared in 8 games for the Liverpool under-18s. He followed this up with 15 appearances for the side in the 2011-12 season, however his performances had not convinced the Liverpool coaching staff to award him the new contract he required to extend his stay with the club, and he was released at the end of the campaign.
