Mauricio Andrés Pellegrino (born 5 October 1971) is a former Argentinian international footballer who played as a defender for Liverpool in 2005. He later became a coach at the club.
Liverpool career[]
In January 2005, Pellegrino signed for Liverpool, becoming the club's first ever Argentinian player. He rejoined Rafael Benitez, who had been his manager at Valencia.
On 15 January 2005, Pellegrino made his Liverpool debut, starting in a disappointing home defeat to major rivals Manchester United. The Argentine continued to make appearances throughout the season, but was ineligible to play in the Red's successful Champions League campaign. Despite his appearances, the then 33 year old was deemed unworthy of a contract extension, and was released from the club.
Three years later, Pellegrino rejoined the club, becoming part of Benitez' staff as a first team coach, a position he held until 2010, when Benitez departed the club.
