The Merseyside Derby is the name given to matches contested between Liverpool and their local rivals Everton. It is currently the longest running top flight derby, being contested since 1962 when Liverpool were promoted to the first division.
It is one of the only derbies that does not force fan separation. Because of this unique feature it is often referred to as the friendly derby.
Since the 1980s, when Liverpool rose in prominence, the matches have intensified on the field, showing more red cards than any other fixture.

The Merseyside Derby was first contested on 13 October 1894. Since it's beginning it has been played 230 times. Liverpool have won the fixture 93 times with Everton winning 66 times. It has been tied 71 times. Liverpool have scored 321 goals to Everton's 258.
