Yalany Cuino Baio (born 10 October 1994) is a Bissau-Guinean footballer who played for the Liverpool Academy and U21s as a midfielder.
Liverpool career[]
Liverpool recruited the highly-rated Baio from Portugal in January 2011. He made his step up to the under-18s for the 2011-12 season and made an immediate name for himself with some spectacular pre-season goals. He is established himself as one of the mainstays of the under-18's starting XI after racking up 23 appearances for the side during the season, and is tipped for a bright future in the game.
He continued in much the same vein in the 2012-13 Academy Under 18s season, making a total of 21 appearances and netting one goal. He also made his step up to U21 football in 2012-13 season, filling in at fullback in two matches to compensate for injuries to a number of the regular U21 fullbacks. In the 2013-14 season, he made just two appearances for the U21s, and was released by the club in May 2014.
Playing stats[]
Despite his short stature, Baio is well regarded as an aggressive, tough-tackling midfielder. He has stated that he models his game on his idol, former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Claude Makelele.
